Previously, material handling on construction sites was quite clearly divided.
Forklifts handled ground work, cranes handled height work, and loaders handled heavy lifting-everyone did their own thing. But in the last two years, you'll notice many sites are seeing fewer pieces of equipment but more telescopic boom forklifts.
It's not because they're "new," but because sites are genuinely finding it more cumbersome.
In actual operations, much material isn't placed precisely in front or at the appropriate height; it's often somewhere in between. Forklifts can't reach it, and cranes are overkill. Previously, the only solution was to call in another piece of equipment or change plans on the spot. Now, many sites simply use a telescopic boom forklift.
What telescopic booms truly change isn't load capacity, but the way they operate.
With the boom extended, operators no longer need to repeatedly adjust the vehicle's position to "align" with the material; they can simply stand in a relatively safe and stable position to pick up and place materials. For the site, this means less moving, less waiting, and less interference between people and equipment.
And then there's the perspective. As operating height increases and obstacles become more numerous, the limited visibility of traditional forklifts becomes increasingly apparent. Telescopic booms, however, make it easier for operators to judge distances and heights. This sense of "clear visibility" is often more important than specifications in actual work. Of course, when combined with intelligent systems, efficiency and safety are further enhanced.
Gradually, telescopic boom forklifts have been used in more and more places where they weren't originally designed.
Construction sites, stone quarries, steel structure loading and unloading, farm material handling… they may not be the most efficient, but they are often the least prone to errors and require the least communication.
Ultimately, choosing equipment on-site is never about advertising, but about adaptability and efficiency to the task. The telescopic boom forklift has remained popular largely because it simplifies "non-standard operations." In the future, with technological advancements, it will be used in even more places where it wasn't originally designed…
