I. Why are the front wheels larger?
The main weight of a forklift is concentrated at the front of the vehicle, supported by the forks. The front axle needs to bear a significant load when lifting and moving goods. Therefore, the front wheels typically use larger tires with higher load-bearing capacity.
Larger front wheels also have a practical function: they allow the vehicle to better withstand impacts during operation. For example, when traversing road seams, minor potholes, or loading and unloading goods, larger tires generally have better adaptability to different road surfaces.

II. Why are the rear wheels smaller?
The rear axle primarily handles steering and doesn't directly bear most of the load like the front axle. Forklifts also typically use rear-wheel steering. The relatively smaller rear wheels allow for more flexible movement of the steering mechanism and also help reduce the vehicle's turning radius.
This is convenient for working in confined spaces. If frequent turning between racks or in aisles is required, excessive turning space at the rear would negatively impact operational efficiency.
III. How does this design relate to the forklift's center of gravity?
It's not simply a matter of "bigger wheels in the front, smaller wheels in the back."
Its entire chassis structure is actually designed around the weight of the load, the vehicle's center of gravity, and stability.
When the forks lift a load, the load shifts the vehicle's center of gravity. A proper force distribution needs to be maintained between the front axle, rear axle, and counterweight to ensure stability during load handling. The larger front and smaller rear wheels are actually part of the forklift's overall structural design.
Is bigger front wheels and smaller rear wheels always better?
Not necessarily. Tire size needs to be matched to the forklift's rated load, vehicle weight, axle load, operating environment, and speed.
Indoor warehouses, paved roads, and uneven outdoor terrain all have different tire requirements. Therefore, forklift tires aren't simply about "bigger is better," but rather about matching the overall vehicle design to actual working conditions.
So, the larger front wheels and smaller rear wheels on a forklift aren't for aesthetics, but determined by its operating method. The front wheels bear the main load, while the rear wheels are responsible for flexible steering. Together with the frame, counterweight, and wheelbase design, they ensure the stability and maneuverability of the forklift when handling goods.
