Why Choose A Side Loader For Handling Long Materials?

In most material handling operations, counterbalance forklifts are sufficient for relatively regular goods. However, they can be problematic with long items. While they can be lifted, they require extreme care and must allow sufficient space for passage. So, what "black technology" does a side loader utilize to solve this problem?

1. Core Principle
Lifting long materials with a regular forklift is like carrying an extra-long bamboo pole – the load lies across the front of the forklift, the center of gravity is high and off-center, causing it to sway and taking up space. A side loader, however, does the opposite: the forks are on the side of the forklift, equipped with a large loading platform. After lifting a long item, it retracts steadily into the middle of the forklift, placing the load flat on the platform. This ensures the load's center of gravity is perfectly aligned with the forklift body, like carrying a "bamboo pole" in your arms – eliminating swaying and providing maximum safety.


2. Halve Aisle Width
Aisle width directly impacts warehouse space utilization. For example, in a warehouse storing 6-meter-long materials, a regular forklift requires an aisle of over 8 meters to turn around; however, with a sidecar forklift, 3 to 3.5 meters, or sometimes even just over 2 meters, is sufficient, saving half the space! The secret lies in the sidecar forklift's "lateral picking, longitudinal travel." No need for laborious 90-degree turns in the aisle; goods can be stored and retrieved in a straight line.


3. Stable Even on Bumpy Ground
Long materials are most vulnerable to bumps; a slight tilt can easily cause deformation and slippage. To cope with uneven working surfaces, sidecar forklifts are typically equipped with advanced hydraulic leveling technology, along with hydraulic outriggers. Even with slight undulations, the loading platform remains level, acting like a "stabilizer" for the goods. Furthermore, it allows for fine-tuning of the fork angle, achieving millimeter-level precision during stacking. Whether placing or retrieving goods, it is both stable and accurate, eliminating the need for repeated adjustments.
